CertiGo Verified Local Expert Mother of 3

I have been working in Alanya tourism for 19 years. I am also a mother of three. When families ask me "is it safe there?", they are not asking about statistics they are asking whether someone like me, with children, with real experience, would go. My honest answer every single time is yes. Turkey, and Alanya in particular, is one of the safest tourist destinations in the world. Let me explain exactly why I believe that, and where I would draw the line because no place is without nuance.

Part 01 / 04

How Safe Is Turkey and Antalya (Alanya)?

I have been part of this industry my entire adult life. I have seen Turkey's tourism grow, stumble, and grow again. And one thing has remained constant: when you compare Turkey to its competitors Egypt, Morocco, Spain, Greece Turkey's crime and complaint rates against tourists are significantly lower. That is not a marketing line. It is what I have observed, first-hand, for nearly two decades.

Tourism is critical to Turkey's economy. The government knows it, the local people know it, and the industry has built itself around protecting that reputation. The vast majority of people you will encounter hotel staff, tour operators, restaurant owners, taxi drivers understand that a tourist's good experience is the foundation of everything. That mindset shapes how you will be treated.

Yes, there are people who see tourists as a one-time sale. They exist everywhere. But in Alanya and across the Antalya region, they are the exception, not the rule and every year, the industry gets better at pushing them out.

Seda's note: I take my three children on holidays across Turkey every year. I have never once felt unsafe. That is my most honest recommendation.

Part 02 / 04

Safety by Area: Alanya, Side, Belek and Beyond

Not every resort along the Turkish Riviera has the same character. Here is my honest breakdown, as someone who has worked with tourists from all of these areas for nearly two decades.

Alanya

This is my home. In summer, Alanya is electric incredibly busy, full of energy, and yes, a little chaotic. But when you look at the actual numbers, the crime picture is very mild. The most serious incidents I am aware of are occasional bar disputes late at night, the kind you would find in any busy resort town in Europe. Nothing that would give a family, a couple, or a group of friends any reason to worry.

The local population here has grown up alongside tourism. Most families have someone working in a hotel, a tour company, or a restaurant. Tourism is not an abstract concept here it is their livelihood, their neighbours, their daily life. You will feel that in how you are treated.

Side – Manavgat

Side is noticeably calmer than Alanya. It has its own town life running alongside the tourist scene ancient ruins, a proper town centre, local families going about their day. That balance gives it a slightly different feel. For tourists, it is extremely safe. The only complaints I heard last season were a handful of aggressive high-pressure sales situations and even those I would call unfortunate exceptions rather than a pattern. Overall, Side and Manavgat are genuinely relaxed destinations.

Belek – Lara – Kundu

These three areas sit close together within Antalya province, and they represent the absolute top of Turkish hospitality. Some of the finest hotels in the world are here. The service levels are extraordinary, the infrastructure is immaculate, and the safety record is essentially flawless. I have genuinely never heard anyone complain about anything more serious than misplacing their phone charger. If you want the most controlled, premium-quality holiday experience in the region, this is it.

Seda's note: Wherever you stay in the Antalya region Alanya, Side, Belek, or anywhere between you are in one of the safest tourist corridors in the Mediterranean. I have never recommended otherwise and I never will.

Safe Tours in Alanya, Antalya, Side and Manavgat

Knowing a destination is safe is one thing. Knowing which tours to trust is another. In 19 years of working in Alanya tourism, I have seen what a well-run tour looks like and I have seen what happens when the operator cuts corners. Below are the tours I personally stand behind. Every one of them has been reviewed by our CertiGo team, and several I have taken with my own children.

Tour What It Is
All Boat Tours View All → Every verified boat tour we offer in Alanya in one place. Personally checked by our team.
Pirate Boat Most Popular Book → Full-day sailing, foam party, the best atmosphere on the water. The one guests ask for by name. From 22 Euro.
Pirate Boat Budget Option Book → Same Mediterranean, same experience at a price that leaves room for the rest of your holiday. From 18 Euro.

Land of Legends from Alanya Book → Turkey's biggest theme park water slides, rides, and shows. Transfer from Alanya included. A favourite for families with children.

Seda's note: Every tour on this list has been checked not just listed. CertiGo does not add a tour to its platform without someone from our team reviewing it. That is the only standard I accept.

Part 04 / 04

Why Turkey Is Safer Than You Might Think

I want to address something directly, because I hear it often: people who compare Turkey to places they have heard are "safer" and yet have never actually visited either. The numbers tell a different story.

When you measure tourist-related crime and complaints across Mediterranean destinations Egypt, Morocco, Spain, Greece, Turkey Turkey consistently performs very well. Better than many Western European destinations, in fact, when it comes to petty theft and tourist-targeted scams in beach resort areas.

Tourism is not just an industry here it is a national priority. The Turkish government invests heavily in tourist safety infrastructure, and that investment shows. Each year the country welcomes tens of millions of visitors. The repeat rate is high. That does not happen by accident. It happens because people come, feel safe, enjoy themselves, and come back.

Seda's note: Turkey's tourism gets better every year. That is not something I say to sell a tour it is something I have watched happen from the inside for nearly two decades.

Common Questions

Is Alanya Safe? Frequently Asked Questions

Is Alanya safe for tourists?

Yes, completely. Alanya is one of Turkey's most established and visited resort towns, and crime against tourists is extremely low. The local community is closely tied to the tourism industry, which creates a natural incentive to keep visitors safe and happy. Families, couples, solo travellers and groups all visit without issue every season.

Is Turkey safe to visit in 2025?

Yes. The tourist regions of Turkey Antalya, Alanya, Bodrum, Cappadocia are very safe and well-accustomed to international visitors. Turkey hosts tens of millions of tourists annually and consistently scores well on safety comparisons with other Mediterranean destinations.

Is Alanya safe for families with children?

As a mother of three who has taken her children on tours across Turkey and throughout Alanya, I can say yes without hesitation. The beaches are safe, the tours are family-friendly, and the local culture is very welcoming toward children. It is one of the reasons I recommend Alanya to families before anywhere else.

Are tours in Alanya safe?

The tours on CertiGo are verified before they go live on our platform. We do not list tours we have not reviewed. That said, not every operator in Alanya meets this standard which is exactly why CertiGo exists. If you book through us, you can trust what you are getting.

Is Side and Manavgat safe for tourists?

Yes. Side and Manavgat are quieter than Alanya and have a slightly more local character, which many visitors find reassuring. The tourist experience there is generally smooth and relaxed. The only complaints I have heard were occasional high-pressure sales situations worth being aware of, but not a reason to avoid the area.

How does Turkey compare to Egypt or Morocco for tourist safety?

Turkey compares very favourably. Tourist-related crime and complaint rates in the Antalya region are significantly lower than many competing Mediterranean and North African destinations. The infrastructure, the regulatory environment, and the cultural relationship with tourism are all more mature here. It is one of the reasons Turkey continues to grow as a destination year on year.
