I've been going to Sapadere Canyon for many years first as a jeep safari driver, now with a cabrio bus. When I started, there wasn't even a bridge to walk across the canyon. Every time I see what it looks like today, I'm still amazed. It's a remarkable place. Last season the bridge was completely submerged by the water. This year it's been fully rebuilt. Tourists ask me the same question constantly: "Where does this water come from?" The honest answer is that there's no single source it's mountain runoff and rainwater collecting from the surrounding peaks. That's why the water level rises and falls. In 2016 it nearly dried up completely. I hope we never see that again. No filler.

I'm from Mahmutlar, a village just outside Alanya. I started my career in tourism as a jeep safari driver in Sapadere Canyon navigating the mountain roads, getting tourists through the terrain, watching their faces when they saw the canyon for the first time. I wanted to do more than drive. So I became a licensed guide. My entire career has been focused on two regions: Alanya, where I grew up, and Cappadocia, where I worked for four years. I know both areas not as someone who read about them but as someone who lived and worked inside them. Sapadere Canyon is my home terrain. I've walked that bridge hundreds of times. I've seen the water high enough to flood the bridge. I've seen it low enough that you could almost step across the rocks. I know what this place looks like in every season and in every mood. I guide in Turkish, German, Norwegian, and Finnish. A large part of my guests come from Scandinavia and German-speaking countries, and I guide them in their own language. You can find me on Instagram or book through CertiGo below. |
Abdullah's Fast Facts
Sapadere Canyon at a Glance
Location: Sapadere village, 25 km from Alanya city centre
Natural pools: ~14 swim-ready pools along the canyon walk
Time needed: 45 minutes to 1 hour in the canyon is enough
Water source: Mountain runoff & rainwater level varies by season
Self-drive entry fee: Extra 200 TL on top of parking village tour not included
Minimum tour price 2026: €40 per person (legally set anything cheaper is unlicensed)
My recommendation: Always go with a licensed tour. The canyon itself is free to access, but what surrounds it the village, the mosque, the orange groves, the riverside lunch that's where the day actually lives.

The Canyon
What Actually Happens Inside Sapadere Canyon
The canyon walk takes you across a series of wooden bridges over crystal-clear mountain water. There are around 14 natural pools along the route every single one is swimmable. But not all of them are equally safe.

Enter the canyon and start walking The path follows the water the entire way. It's not a hike it's a gentle walk on wooden bridges with the canyon walls rising on both sides. The air drops noticeably cooler the moment you step inside. Even in July, it feels like a different climate. |

The natural pools which ones to enter There are about 14 natural pools along the canyon and all of them are swimmable. But some can be dangerous. My rule: only enter pools that have a ladder. If there's no ladder, don't go in getting out can be harder than getting in. The water is cold and clear. When I take guests through, I point out the safe ones personally. |

Walk the full bridge all the way to the end Don't turn back early. The full walk takes you to the large waterfall at the end of the canyon and that waterfall is the whole point. Stand under it. Feel the water hit your head. That's the moment people talk about for the rest of their holiday. Everything before it is buildup. Everything after it is memory. |

Time inside: 45 minutes to 1 hour is enough You don't need to rush, but you also don't need hours. A proper canyon visit walking the full route, swimming in one or two pools, standing at the waterfall fits comfortably inside 45 minutes to an hour. When you go with a CertiGo tour, the rest of your day continues after the canyon. |
Abdullah's note: The bridge was completely submerged last year. In 2026 it's been fully rebuilt. Every time I come back to this canyon after a long season, I still stop for a moment when I see it. I grew up near this place. I started my career here as a driver before I was even a licensed guide. It never gets old.

Beyond the Canyon
What Else Happens on the Tour Day
The canyon is the centrepiece of the day but it's not the whole day. With a CertiGo tour, here's what the full experience looks like.
| 🍽️ Riverside Lunch
After the canyon, you eat lunch at a restaurant by the river a proper sit-down meal by the water with fresh air coming down from the valley. This is included in the tour price. Drinks and alcohol are extra. |
🕌 The Village Mosque
Near Sapadere Canyon there's a small village with a very old mosque. Don't skip it. It's one of those places that has genuine atmosphere the kind you feel when you walk inside, not just photograph from outside. |
| 🍊 Orange Groves
The road to Sapadere passes through orange and banana plantations. Depending on the season, you can walk through the groves. This region produces some of the best citrus in Turkey and most tourists have no idea it's right here. |
🚌 Hotel Pickup Included
Both CertiGo tours include hotel pickup from across Alanya Mahmutlar, Oba, Konaklı, Avsallar, city centre. You don't need to arrange your own transport to the canyon. Confirm your hotel at booking. |
Self-Drive vs. Tour
Can You Go to Sapadere Canyon on Your Own?
Yes, you can. But here's what that actually means.
|
By Car (Self-Drive)
You pay an extra 200 TL entry fee at the canyon entrance, on top of parking. You see the canyon itself that's it. No village tour, no mosque visit, no orange groves, no riverside lunch. You drive back the same way you came. |
With a Licensed Tour
Hotel pickup included. Canyon entry included. Village tour, mosque, orange groves, and a full riverside lunch all included in the price. You arrive knowing someone who knows this place. Much more enjoyable for almost the same cost. |
Abdullah's note: I'm not saying you can't go alone of course you can. But the canyon is one part of what makes this day special. The village nearby, the lunch by the river, the groves that's the context that makes the place make sense. A professional tour gives you all of it. Driving yourself gives you one piece.
Common Questions
Sapadere Canyon: Frequently Asked Questions
There's no single spring or source. The water is mountain runoff and collected rainwater from the peaks above. That's why the level changes high after a wet winter, lower in a dry year. In 2016 it nearly dried up completely. The canyon has no guaranteed water level; it responds to what the mountains give it.
Yes. The bridge was completely flooded last season and has been fully rebuilt for 2026. As of my latest visit, the walkway is in excellent condition.
45 minutes to an hour is plenty for a full visit walking the entire route, swimming in one or two pools, and reaching the large waterfall at the end. You don't need to rush, but you also don't need more than an hour unless you want to sit and stay awhile.
Only enter pools that have a ladder. Some of the pools have very smooth rock walls getting in is easy, getting out is not. If there's no ladder, don't jump in. This is especially important for children. When you're with a guide, they'll point you to the right ones.
Light clothing and a swimsuit. Bring a towel and water shoes or sandals with grip the bridges can be slippery when wet. The canyon air is cool even in summer, so a light layer isn't a bad idea. Sunscreen for the parts of the day outside the canyon.
The official minimum price for a licensed Sapadere Canyon tour in 2026 is €40 per person. If you see it advertised for less, the operator is unlicensed which means no proper insurance and illegal tourist transport. Please report it to TÜRSAB. This matters for your safety, not just for fairness to legitimate operators.
Yes the canyon walk is straightforward and not physically demanding. Just keep children away from pools without ladders. Younger children enjoy the bridges and the cool water enormously. It's one of the best family days in the Alanya region.
Often yes. Contact the CertiGo team via WhatsApp at +90 546 642 06 86 you'll get a real answer within minutes, not an automated response.
